Summer 2020 News

All around the world during lockdown people have been spending more time and money online and purchasing high quality prints is no exception. Whether acquired to hang in a newly decorated room or to compliment an interest or add to a collection, print sales are booming.

My museum quality Giclée prints certainly add colour to a wall and being oversized compared to the original vinyl single have great presence.

All my 45renegade series prints are available with free international delivery (just a few exceptions) so for £129 you could buy a beautifully produced limited edition certificated print on Hahnemuhle 308gsm cotton rag matte white paper, quite simply the best available. It could be on your wall in no time.

New for Summer 2020 is a facility to print a size to order. Please contact me with your requirements – up to 57cm square on the paper previously described or as a larger scale we could pick a suitable paper stock. Take a look at my images, they look amazing even larger.

There are sixteen prints in the series, featuring much loved classic vinyl singles from a number of genres all with up to fifty years of patina faithfully reproduced. They look great individually, or in groups. Once again, it is possible to create one print with multiple images so please get in touch with bespoke orders or commission requests.

In a colourful mid-century style they compliment popular images by the renowned Pop Artists, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Richard Hamilton etc. as well as current sought after favourites from the eighties by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.

Hahnemühle Museum Quality Paper

A little insight into the paper used for my prints. My uncompromising spec was for the best quality museum quality, age resistant paper you could get on a roll. The choice of Hahnemühle Photo Rag means my prints portray a great ‘3 Dimensional Lite’ effect from a 2 Dimensional print, the patina and tears come alive which was just what I was aiming to achieve.

When these sleeves were commercially mass produced they were simply to wrap and keep safe a vinyl single, little thought was given the the quality of the printing. Serendipitously, this economy printing, when blown up to this scale and printed professionally on the absorbent paper lends the prints a painted feel. This is particularly the case on the Sixties Parlophone sleeves in my early The Beatles prints.

The texture of the paper and the high absorbency contribute to a very high quality appearance that is a shame to hide behind glass, but to preserve and avoid UV light damage it’s essential.

We always hope you’re thrilled with your prints, and love to see photographs of prints hung in your home or business.

The following description is from the supplying company’s own website. Please contact me directly if you would like any further information, or specification requirements of your own, for example paper and image size.

” Hahnemühle Photo Rag® is one of the world’s most popular papers and the valued all-rounder for high-quality FineArt inkjet printing. The white cotton artist’s paper, with its characteristic, wonderfully soft feel, boasts a lightly defined felt structure, lending each artwork a three-dimensional appearance and impressive pictorial depth. Combined with the matt premium inkjet coating, this paper produces outstanding prints that feature brilliant colours, deep blacks, striking contrasts and perfect reproduction of detail. This acid- and lignin-free classic meets the most exacting requirements for age resistance and is specially designed for FineArt applications. Whether it is used for FineArt photography or art reproductions, the ideal combination of structure, print quality and weight makes Photo Rag® one of the most versatile FineArt inkjet papers. “

Scale

Dexy’s 7″ Geno from the Seventies versus The Beatles 45renegade Sixties print. Slipping the Dexy’s single, which was originally in a picture cover, inside a battered retro Parlophone sleeve really works too!

Daddy, what’s a Giclée?

People ask what is a Giclée print versus a lithograph?

Giclée is a fairly new name from the late 20th Century for large format, high resolution, fine art printing with industrial ink jet printers using a roll of archival quality paper and fade resistant inks. The prohibitive cost of materials means they are ten times the cost of a litho to produce.

All the prints in this series are printed in this style with specific emphasis on colour correction and proofing using the same heavy Hahnemühle 308gsm Photo Rag 100% Cotton paper. This paper stock really soaks up the ink so creating an image of real depth for two dimensions.

I’m proud of the exceptional quality of the prints produced in collaboration with my friend Andy Hamilton who has a working lifetime at the heart of the London print industry correcting, printing & proofing to a very high standard for magazines and agencies.

All prints are printed to order so please allow two weeks between order and delivery. The aim is for you to receive as soon as possible.

All Giclée prints are flat packed for preservation.
