New e-Book: The Punk Operating System, Build Without Permission

The Punk Operating System Book Promo

Punk was never just a sound. It was a working method.

No permission. No gatekeepers. No budget. Just ideas, people and action.

That is the thinking behind my new e-book, The Punk Operating System: Build Without Permission.

In the late 1970s the music industry was closed, expensive and slow. So punk built its own. Fanzines on borrowed photocopiers. Labels run from spare rooms. Shows in hired halls. Records sold by post. Independence was a practical decision, not a pose.

The same pattern keeps turning up in open source software, independent publishing and small business today:

▪ Self-sufficiency over waiting for approval
▪ Attention earned, not bought
▪ Community before scale
▪ Constraints as a method
▪ Ethics as limits, not slogans

This is not a history of punk, and it is not a how-to manual. It looks at how independence is built, what it costs, and when to walk away.

Ten chapters, with examples from Fugazi, Rough Trade, Linux, Patagonia and Craigslist.

If you are building something without anyone’s permission, this one is for you.
